Encouragement that Sustains the Sheppard
Pastoral ministry is a sacred calling, but it is also a demanding one. We know that pastors carry the spiritual responsibility of leading, teaching and caring for others, often while facing their own personal and practical challenges.
Why writing to your pastor is powerful
One of the greatest gifts you give through your partnership with Live Connection is not only financial support, but connection. Live Connection was never intended to be only about financial provision. It is about relationship . Our pastors foster relationships with their Live Connection partners by sending out quarterly ministry reports. Writing a letter of encouragement in return is one of the most tangible ways this shared commitment is brought to life!
A Biblical Example of Encouragement
Writing letters to encourage those in ministry is not a new idea. The Apostle Paul understood the weight of ministry and the importance of encouragement. Throughout the New Testament, we see Paul writing letters to churches and to individual pastors in order to strengthen their faith and steady their hearts.
Paul wrote to Timothy, a young pastor facing pressure and opposition, reminding him of his calling and urging him to remain faithful. He encouraged him not to give in to fear, but to rely on the strength God had given him. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NIV In many ways, when a Live Connection partner writes to a pastor today, they are following this same biblical pattern of encouragement.
Are you OK?
Many pastors supported through Live Connection serve in remote places and receive little day-to-day encouragement. Over time, that isolation can quietly wear them down.
A simple letter changes that. It reminds a pastor they are known, prayed for, and not alone. For many, those words arrive at just the right moment—bringing renewed strength and hope. What’s more, written encouragement lasts! Pastors often reread letters during difficult seasons, drawing courage from words written in love. What feels small to you can become a lifeline to them.
This is partnership made personal. When you write, you step into a pastor’s story, affirm their calling, and walk alongside them in prayer. Your words matter more than you think. Write a letter today—and remind a pastor they are seen, supported, and deeply valued.
A beautiful blessing from their partners
The following are heartwarming excerpts from our pastors’ letters:
"Thank you also for the prayers that <you> are praying for us… I also thank them for the letter of encouragement they sent me to encourage me to continue believing in the one who has called me, and to continue in evangelism and that in God’s time, the Lord will help us and we will also be able to build. It really encouraged me." Pastor in Zambia
“Let me…thank <you> for writing a special letter to me. It was not merely a letter, but prophetic and encouragement. The prayer for peace to my family, was very unique and personal, counting the situation we are passing through in our family.” Pastor in Malawi
“I take this opportunity to thank God for the great role you have played in my life. I especially appreciate the previous feedback letter you sent to me, which was very touching and encouraging. It truly transformed my life.” Pastor in Kenya
Start building a live connection!
We asked one of our partners to share why they take the time to write letters:
“It is my great privilege to be a partner with several pastors in Africa, to be able to share my friendship, financial support and prayer support with them. I realise that this connection is life-giving for them and for me. When I respond to their Ministry Report the pastor knows that they are not merely writing a report as an exercise.
They are writing to a real person who is sharing their life journey”
“… so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8 NIV
Each time I read a Ministry Letter I take time to pray, particularly about the situation they have asked me to pray for. I write back to them, usually that same day, because I know that Rani can forward my letter to them quickly, using messaging technology. I love being able to ask them questions and receive feedback.
One pastor in Africa can feel supported, seen and blessed, knowing that someone is sharing in what God is doing in their part of the world. We give financially. Can we give our hearts also? Can we give encouragement, and support to “spur one another on to love and good works”?
“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:20-21 NIV
Letter writing is no longer a task for me. Writing a letter is love in action! ”
But I don’t know how?
Good news, to help you get started, we’ve included a five-minute letter template to guide you. Please feel free to adapt it and make it your own.
Reach out to your pastor by returning it to Rani at admin@liveconnection.org – and start growing that live connection!
“Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Blessings,
